I don't like Dunmer all that much. I've met a few who were acting in a sensible manner, as opposed to their more entitled brethren. However, I think to this day Erandur is the only Dunmer who I'd actively want to keep around me, because he's a swell guy. After his quest is done, he stays behind in a gloomy temple full of probably tormenting memories for him. He implies it's for penance reasons, but honestly, it doesn't sound very healthy.
I acquired the Hearthfire extension for Skyrim recently, and when I got to the part where you can appoint a follower as your personal steward, I was immediately filled with glee. I'd love to get Erandur out of that unhealthy environment and somewhere nicer, but I don't really use followers because they have this habit of breaking my stealth. So I brought him to my house, and there I realized you can't make him a steward. A lot of the great followers can't be made into stewards, actually.
You can have some random mercenaries as your steward, but not the probably coolest Dunmer in the game. That is just lame. I'm sorry.
Yeah, I kind've thought that sucked, too. I've had Erandur following my Orc almost the entire time I've played Skyrim. Ah, well. I'll settle with him being her father figure/battle companion. Cool style, by the way.
I wanted my kids to have an Uncle J'zargo and now their stuck with Onmund (three guesses who my wife is)
But wanted him to manage Winstad, since it was going to be where I kept all my magic related and other dangerous stuff. But nope, can't do it. >_<
